About Taxpayer Treasures
Taxpayer Treasures is a daily guide to things the government is selling. Federal agencies sell vehicles, boats, equipment, seized homes and plenty of stranger things to the public. We read the public listings twice a day and pick out what's closing soon, what's unusual and what's still cheap.
Where the information comes from
- GSA Auctions: federal surplus, from GSA's public data feed.
- IRS Auctions: property seized for unpaid taxes, from irsauctions.gov. We don't publish the names of the taxpayers involved.
- U.S. Treasury: seized and forfeited homes, vehicles, boats and aircraft, from treasury.gov.
- Bureau of Land Management: wild horse and burro adoption events, from blm.gov.
- GCSurplus: what Canada's government sold, from Canada's open data portal. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada.
- Announcements and tips: alerts from government agencies and finds sent in by readers, written up in our own words with a link to the original.
Bids, payment and pickup always happen on the official site, and every listing here links to it. Prices and dates can change at any moment, so check the official page before you bid or travel.
